What is the Political Courage Test?

Nebraska Congressional Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Pro-choice and Pro-choice are divisive terms. I am in the middle
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
No In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
To balance the budget we do not need to cut hardly any spending or to increase taxes. We simply need to hold down spending increases to below the rate of growth of the economy.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
I support complete transparency for all political donations from any source.
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
The new tax law could have been made revenue neutral by making offsets in other areas to balance out the corporate tax cuts.
Yes Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
As long as they are general principles of achieving excellence and do not try to prescribe specific policies for attaining positive results.
No Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
I support a (revenue neutral) carbon tax to curtail carbon emissions. I would like to remove all tax subsidies for energy development.
Yes Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
I support a ban on assault weapons as the most effective way to curtail mass shootings.
No Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
I support changes in the ACA to give individuals more responsibility for the costs of their own healthcare, such as moving to (high deductible) catastrophic insurance supplemented with health savings accounts.
Yes Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
Yes Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
I support setting up a guest worker visa program so that employers can hire immigrants legally if there is not enough local labor to operate their businesses.
No Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
Marijuana is unhealthy and should not be legalized. However, I do support decriminalization.
No Should the United States use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a nuclear weapon?
No Do you support increased American intervention in Middle Eastern conflicts beyond air support?
As China gains in economic and military strength, our best defense is to have lots of democratic allies around the world. To this end I support the establishment and extension of democratic procedures whenever and wherever we can do this effectively.
My top priority by far is to fix our debt problem. We can do this by shrinking annual deficits with sensible budgeting and also controlling the cost of healthcare inflation along the lines I discussed above.
